Barnyard mentality from National Pork Board
Alright - this is nuts.
Jennifer Laycock, the wise runner of Search Engine Guide was recently hit upon by the National Pork Board to do a number of things. (It seems the Lactivist project, where she explained step-by-step how to market a new web site on a budget caught their attention. Part of the project were the funny shirts she sold to promote breastfeeding, including one called “The Other White Milk.).
So, she recently received a letter from the National Pork Board asking her to do a few things for them to make this situation right by them.
Hmmm. Well, see, this is a bad move (moooov??) on their part - they look bad for beating up on a small entrepreneur, and in the end, the blogging world will haunt them.
So, as suggested over at Search Engine Land, here’s part of the “feedback” in action…

What the heck were they thinking? This is classic “old men in a board room” mentality in action. “We have a trademark on a phrase and we must show we’re ready to defend it.” So naturally, they decide they should target a small business owner who has done NOTHING to tarnish the Pork Boards image, products or efforts in any way.
If anything, those of us who have long since become sick of having that catchy little slogan bouncing around inside our heads, were again reminded of it upon reading Jen’s t-shirts. If they’d get their heads out of the trough for a minute, they might realize there’s an upside here…
This effort will do nothing but hurt the Pork Board - bad move on their part.
Get going folks - be heard. (herd??)
