Where To Find Help There is an almost endless list of forums and blogs that offer help for those new to search optimization and Webmastering. Here’s a VERY short, but highly recommended, list: 1 – Search Engine Forumshttp://www.searchengineforums.com/ – SEF has been around since the beginning and many of the big name sin search started here. The attitude at SEF is simple – we help others learn. SEF is the first place most new folks land when researching search optimization and most often they stick around as questions are answered quickly and definitively. One point to note – SEF is pretty much 100% white hat only – so you won’t learn any sneaky tricks in here. 2 – Search Engine Watchhttp://searchenginewatch.com/ – Lots of professional optimizers hang out here so the knowledge base is very deep. SEW tends to focus more on the business side of search optimization, but they have lots of members and folks can learn a great deal by reading through posts and searching for things. 3 – I Help You Forumshttp://www.ihelpyou.com/forums/ – This place has one of the greatest “vibes” going. Everyone is helpful and they’ll share all kinds of tidbits with you. 4 – Webmaster Worldhttp://www.webmasterworld.com/ – WMW is a more “holistic” space for Webmasters. It offers spaces to discuss pretty much anything related to your website – from building it to optimizing it for traffic. If you have a burning need to learn some of the “black arts” of search optimization, many folks here will speak openly – what you do with that knowledge is totally up to you. They don’t necessarily support it’s use, but they will answer your questions. Great places to read: Matt Cutts is a Google engineer who tirelessly shares tidbits with folks to help them ‘do right by Google’s rules”. His blog is here: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/ Jeremy Zawodny is an engineer over at Yahoo who’s not afraid to say it like it is, which can be scary and helpful at the same time. http://jeremy.zawodny.com/blog/ Jill Whalen is an acknowledged expert in search optimization, and you might consider getting on her mailing list – her monthly newsletter is worthwhile reading: http://www.highrankings.com/ What I’ve listed above is a shortlist of the places I visit, read or participate at almost daily. Others will recommend other places, many of which are worthwhile. This list should at least get you started on a collection of links where you can find almost instant support for “gotta-know-right-now” questions and further learning.
